Rembrandt Ellipsed

We know what it means to eclipse an artist but what does it mean to ellipse one? Is ellipsing a valid gesture? What are its qualities? What is its goal?
This book examines enlarged selections of reproduced drawings by Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn through the digital process known as ellipsing.
60 pages, black and white paperback, available for $15 at: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/rembrandt-ellipsed/4818127

  1. Is this akin to the dot patterns from enlarged old--fashioned printing? such expressive results; I especially like pp 14-15, which in their spare gestures, contrast beautifully with the more dense pages. And those little dots, like missing prose, a stand-in for language, marvelous.

  2. the printing doesn't even have to be old fashioned, dot patterns are still used -- take out your magnifying glass and take a look....
